Note: This review was conducted on a late-2014 MacBook Pro running MacOS High Sierra. It’s been more than a week since then and here’s what I think of it. I downloaded Firefox again to check if those initial hiccups have been squashed off and whether the company’s claims had any real-life veracity. And in the original launch post, it made no bones about dethroning Chrome. A few weeks ago, Mozilla publicly rolled out the update. Eventually, in a couple of days, I moved back to Chrome.įirefox Quantum, however, is no longer in beta. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out well. In a hope to be finally free of the Chrome monarchy, I had high expectations for what Firefox’s new platform had to offer. I’ve been so satisfied that I’ve made it my default browser.When Mozilla originally made the Quantum update for its Firefox browser official, I was one of the few early testers to jump onboard. It’s like someone made a list of all the minor annoyances of browsers and corrected them in a new browser. The search bar and address bar are combined just like in Chrome. There’s nothing that Chrome can do that that you can’t do faster in Firefox Quantum. It allows you to move all the buttons around, or change every color and font, It can let you choose which app opens when you click on an email address. You know how your phone is too bright at night? Quantum has a “Night Mode” which inverts the colors on most white websites. Very nice if you’ve ever tried to copy and paste a long URL on a phone. The new “Pocket” in Firefox Quantum is a simple way to save a web page for later viewing. You can open a ton of tabs and it won’t freeze the computer because it uses much less memory. The speed is always one beat faster than you expect. Firefox Quantum is faster, smarter and better. Quantum beats Chrome, which has 60% of the browser market. Someone finally gets that we lead multi-browser lives. Just click “Send tab to device” and the article you are reading on your laptop is now on your phone or vice versa.
You can easily send a web page to you phone. Whether you use Safari, Microsoft Edge, Chrome or the old Netscape, there’s a great new browser that I think beats them all – the new Firefox Quantum.
